Welcome to the Thousand Oaks Term Limits Website!

According to a recent report issued by the Center for Governmental Studies, incumbents drew more money than their challengers by a 19-1 margin.  No wonder the incumbent re-election rate is close to 95% instead of the 50% that our Founding Fathers envisioned

“The issue today is the same as it has been throughout history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite.”
- Thomas Jefferson
“The ordinary affairs of a nation offer little difficulty to a person of any experience.”
- Thomas Jefferson
“The short memories of American voters is what keeps our politicians in office.”
- Will Rogers
“Government is too big and too important to be left to politicians.”
- Chester Bowles

Careerism in government defies the notion of a representative democracy.  People serving too long in office defuse the “rotation in office” ideal that the Founding Fathers advocated. Term limits in our City that would limit a person to three consecutive four-year terms and is fair and equitable for all.  We have to end the ever-spiraling costs for local campaigns and open the field to ordinary citizens with new ideas and fresh thinking.

  • Term limits for the Ventura County Board of Supervisors were overwhelmingly supported by 75% of the county’s voters
  • Term limits increase competition and open up the opportunity for citizens, regardless of income, to be elected
  • Term limits reduce the power of special interest that have a lock hold on incumbents
  • Term limits create a citizen council for the people
  • Term limits eliminate governing to win the next election
